This is a very detailed example of a very rare echinoderm. It is an excellent Camptostroma roddyi from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Camptostroma are some of the earliest known types of echinoderms - you may never see another Lower Cambrian echinoderm. These enigmatic, disc-shaped, Medusa-like animals had a distinct plate structure and an unusual orange-brown coloration. This fossil has great detail preserved and contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. The distinct plate structure is easily seen with the naked eye! Although the fossil is repaired, it has no restoration whatsoever. This is a collectible example of this classic Lower Cambrian echinoderm.
