This is a very distinct fossil. It is a very large Chesapecten nefrens shell from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This specimen is one valve of the full bivalve shell. The detail is extremely nice, and the natural color is quite striking. This is a very detailed example of this classic fossil from the Chesapeake Bay region.
