Here is an unusual fossil fish from the Pliocene of Italy. This is Bregmaceros albyi, a pencilfish. The extinct fish has a very long, slender body, and a tiny tail. The fossil has excellent, dark brown color. The contrast with the light-colored matrix is exceptional. The fish is nicely positioned on a large slab of matrix. This is a beautiful specimen of a fossil pencilfish from Italy.
