This is a nice ammonite fossil. It is a fine specimen of Discoscaphites conradi from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a somewhat rounded keel. There are several rows of prominent nodes on the shoulders and near the keel of the ammonite. These features are very clearly defined on this specimen. The ammonite has very nice natural color. The iridescent nacre of this ammonite is easily seen. The specimen is free of matrix, but somewhat flattened on the back side. This is a good example of a loose Discoscaphites conradi.
